Dear Col:
Notwithstanding I have not been favoured with a line from you since your departure from henee, yet neither Mrs. Sterling nor myself have ever failed in our anxious enquires after you; as believe me your health and happiness are matters of great consequence to us both, to whom you are, and deservedly, very dear.
I wrote to you by Lieut. Shiels, of the Garland Frigate, who was captured on his landing here; but he has not the good fortune to find you at Havana, and left my letter to be delivered to you on your arrival from Cap. Francois.
As fíiere is not a Vessel to be either purchased or freighted her, I have by this opportunity solicited Gene. Cagigal for leave to send for one to carry myself and family from henee: I am so will convinced of your goodness & friendship, that I make not the least doubt but will support my application, in which you will infinitely oblige me.

Querido Coronel:
Aunque no he sido favorecido con ninguna noticia suya desde su partida de ésta, ni la Sra. Sterling ni yo hemos cejado en informarnos con ansiedad sobre su persona ya que créame, su salud y felicidad es asunto de gran importancia para nosotros, de quienes V. es merecidamente muy querido.
Le escribí a V. por medio del Teniente Shiels, de la fragata Garland, capturada a su llegada aquí; pero no tuvo la buena fortuna de encontrarlo en La Habana y dejó mi carta para serle entregada a su llegada de Cabo Francés.
Como no encuentro aquí ningún navio para alquilar o comprar, anroveeho la oportunidad para solicitar del General Cagis;al que permita el envío de uno para llevarme a mí y mi familia. Estoy convencido que su buena voluntad y amistad no dejará de apoyar mi petición, por lo que le quedaré muy agradecido.
