Saturday 5th.
Came in from the Enemy 2 Desertors, Germans who bring an account that there was 30 Men and Officer Kill'd, that the first Day they Open'd upon us, we dismounted one of their 24 Pounders, that they had some killed and Wounded, the 2 above Desertors belong'd to the Artillery, And had Insisted with Captain Johnston Royal Artillery, Last Night a Man Deserted from the Provincials we suppose the reason of his Deserting is, that he was out with the Party Yesterday and had plunder'd an Officer now Prisoner with us, of his watch, It being inquired after (and as this Man was seen to take it) was ashamend to Produce it so went off. Also went off this Day 2 Men of the Provincials, the Number of Shot received from the Enemy this Day 85, and 43 Shells.
NB. received in the Night about 10 Shells.
Sunday 6th.
The Enemy opened a Bomb Battery in front of our Advanced Redoubt we had 5 Men wounded by shells from the above. A seaman belonging to the Port Royal as he was picking up shot received a 24 pn. Which Lodg'd in his Body.
Sábado, 5 de mayo.—
Vinieron del enemigo dos desertores alemanes quienes relataron que murieron 30 hombres y oficiales. Que el primer día que abrieron fuego sobre nosotros, les desmontamos uno de sus cañones de 24. Que tuvieron algunos muertos y heridos. Los dos desertores formaban parte de la artillería y se habían alistado con el capitán Johnston, de la artillería real. Anoche desertó un hombre de los Provincianos, suponemos que la razón de su deserción es que ayer salió con un grupo y despojó de su reloj a un oficial, ahora nuestro prisionero. Al pedírsela (pues se vio a este hombre cogerlo) tuvo vergüenza de mostrarlo y se marchó. También se marcharon en este día 2 hombres del Provincianos. El número de disparos recibidos del enemigo en este día fue de 85 y 43 proyectiles.
NB. Durante la noche se recibieron unos diez proyectiles.
Domingo, 6 de mayo.—
El enemigo abrió una batería de bombas delante de nuestro reducto avanzado. Tuvimos cinco hombres heridos por estos proyectiles. Un marinero, perteneciente al "Port Royal", recibió un 24 libras que se le alojó en el cuerpo, cuando estaba recogiendo balas.
