I have waited on Mr. Vansittart this morning according to his desire, but previous to the order from the Treasury being given, he told me that it was necessary to know the exact amount of the custom house duties on the books. Being unable to speak to this. Mr. V. appointed to see me to morrow at 12 o'dock. I have been to the Custom House, «fe after much solicitation obtained the favor to have the books weighed. The weight of the whole is about 3 tons, and the duty alone exclusive of other expences will be at least two hundred & fifty pounds.—In case of any obstacle therefore to the giving the order, I think it proper to let you know what has pass'd, that, if need be, you may be prepared to pay the dues.
The Bill of freight & disbursement amounting to £.325.0 has just been handed me & will be call'd for in the course of a day or two. For the amount of this I will trouble you, & remain respectfully.

He ido a ver al señor Vansittart esta mañana según el deseo de éste, pero antes de ser dada la orden de la Tesorería me dijo que era necesario conocer la suma exacta de los derechos de aduana sobre los libros. No pudiendo responderle sobre esto, el señor Vansittart ha fijado verme mañana a las 12. He ido a las oficinas de la Aduana y tras muchas solicitaciones obtuve el favor de hacer pesar los libros. El peso de la totalidad es de unas 3 toneladas y únicamente los aranceles, sin contar otros gastos, serán de al menos doscientos cincuenta libras. Por lo tanto, en caso de que hubiera algún obstáculo en dar la orden, he creído apropiado informar a V. de lo que ha ocurrido para que, si fuera necesario, pueda estar V. preparado a pagar los derechos.
La cuenta por flete y desembolso, que alcanza a L.32.5.0, me acaba de ser entregada y será exigida dentro de uno o dos días. Para el importe de ésta molestaré a V. y quedo respetuosamente, Señor, el muy obediente servidor de V.
