Abandonamos Bielefeld el día 20 a las tres y media. Los caminos muy malos; el terreno algo en cuesta. Llegamos a Herford a las seis y media; unas 700 casas, calles muy sucias, el campo son muy fértil y está extensamente cultivado. Poco ganado. Se consume mucha leche de cabra. Pasamos la aldea miserable de Kophett, en la vecindad de los montes que rodean Bohemia, y cuando se comparan con el aspecto general del país, merecen ser llamados montañas, aunque no las encuentro indicadas por ningún geógrafo. Avanzamos hacia ellas por un camino paralelo al río Weser y después de pasar el desfiladero por el que corre el río, entramos en una llanura donde se divisa la ciudad de Minden, famosa por la batalla que se libró en 1759, en la que los aliados, con 30.000 hombres mandados por el príncipe Fernando, consiguieron una victoria total sobre los 85.000 de los franceses y les obligaron a cruzar el río al amparo de la ciudad.
