Después de pasar revista a cada regimiento con gran atención, éstos marcharon a sus respectivos puestos y el cañoneo proveniente de varias baterías comenzó apuntando objetivos determinados. Un regimiento avanzó con veinte piezas de artillería de seis libras, y tiraron bien; las baterías de bombas estuvieron bien manejadas, pero las mechas eran un poco demasiado largas. Un cañón de doce y dos de seis fueron traídos para tirar con metralla sobre un blanco, a una distancia de 800 pasos; la distancia era un poco demasiado grande para los cañones, aunque con tiro reforzado, en vez de metralla, pudiera resultar.
